Ballard District Council Meeting 12/11/19
All are welcome for the December meeting of the Ballard District Council.
Wednesday, December 11, 2019
7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Sunset Hill Community Association
3003 NW 66th Street, Seattle, WA 98117
For more information on the meeting, visit the Facebook Events Page or the Ballard District Council Website.
The final meeting of 2019 is anchored by a presentation from the new Seattle Police Community Service Officer program and also features a visit from incoming District 6 council member Dan Strauss. There will be holiday cookies to share (feel free to bring a few more, if you’re inspired). BDC will be voting on 2020 BDC board members and is asking for donations of men’s and women’s pants, socks, and underwear in support of Bridge Care Center.
AGENDA
Seattle Police Community Service Officer (CSO) Program
Sgt. Kevin Nelson will provide an overview of the Community Service Officer program, rolling out this month and set to expand in 2020. CSOs are unarmed, noncommissioned officers who will help respond to noncriminal calls and help connect people with social services. The program operated in Seattle for 33 years until it was cut from the budget in 2004. The CSO uniform and vehicle style will be clearly distinguishable from traditional police officers.
Join us in learning about CSOs and what coverage Ballard can anticipate as they staff up. There will be time for public Q&A. See links below for additional reading.
Welcome to Incoming D6 Council member Dan Strauss
Our new District 6 city council member will drop by for a post-election visit, prior to being sworn into office in January 2020.
BDC Business – Voting on 2020 Board Members and Review of By-Laws
The nomination committee will present nominees for President and Vice President and up to 4 other board members. The President and VP candidates will each have 1-2 minutes to address the attendees, followed by a vote from those in attendance. The board will also give an update on development of our by-laws.
Bridge Care Center Donations
Please consider bringing donations of men’s and women’s clothing for the Bridge Care Center (a drop-in center for men and women experiencing homelessness or economic hardship in Ballard, http://www.bridgecarecenter.org), especially pants, socks, underwear, coats/jackets.
For more than 30 years, BDC has been an active coalition of organizations and individuals, providing a local forum for community engagement, discussions, and information sharing. Thank you to all who participate in Ballard District Council and local civics!
