SHCH Open Mic
Our Open Mic is every third Friday in the Upper Hall, sign-ups at 6:15PM, show starts at 6:30! Join your neighbors and meet new friends. Share your best music, song, poetry, reading, or whatever else you do! All are welcome, free for everyone, donations appreciated.
Our poster this month is of Lila Downs, a very famous singer/songwriter from Oaxaca, Mexico. And where is Oaxaca (Wah-Ha-Cah) Mexico? Ask Janis and Jack serving beer at Open Mic, they both have been there! Oaxaca is in Southern Mexico, where the indigenous people’s cultures of the ancient Zapotecs and Mixtecs still exist, and their religions are still practiced. Lila Downs is from here, and is fluent in Zapotec and Mixtec, and other 3000 year old languages. In Oaxaca City, the Capital, universities teach all the old languages to this day, and restaurants serve traditional ancient foods like fried crickets, Chapulines! We won’t have Chapulines at the show, unless you bring some. They are actually quite good as an omelette garnish!
