SHCH Open Mic
This month we will have our February Open Mic show the third Friday as always. Please come and play a couple of you favorites in our friendly hall!
Sign up sheet opens 6:15, show starts 6:30. Your host will be MC Top Hat, and Suzanna Tamborina.
So come play our new piano! It’s been tuned up, pedals fixed, and it’s loud! There must be lots of kids out there taking piano lessons, we are ready for you! Musicians and Poets, be prepared to pull your lucky number out of our new lucky yellow plastic cheese box! Luckier than a lucky top hat, as cheese only gets better with time, and top hats have an occasional magic rabbit downside. Nothing like a warm magic rabbit inside your top hat on a cold day, Yes! but house/hat trained magic rabbits are hard to find.
Pull a magic yellow cheese colored number, then line up in order to pick your favorite sign up sheet slot. Our newest system is to play two songs, so everyone can play that shows up. Best to pull a number at 6:15, but if you arrive later, there is still room for you if you are patient. Please let the first group of yellow ticket sign up people go first then it’s your turn.
Our poster this month by Ballard artistsParker Gambino. Joe Ely and Flatlanders, founded in 1972 by Jimmy Dale Gilmore, (now famous musician Joe Ely), and Butch Hancock. They played together as unknowns for a year only, broke up, then became very successful solo artists, rising to being really famous individually with their own bands. Their one old record from the 70’s has been re-released as the history of a legendary “supergroup” before they were famous. And they reunite often, and even made a reunited album, “Now again” in 2000, only a thirty year gap.You can read Parker’s literary tribute to Joe Ely by clicking here.
So come and see your talented Ballard musician friends, bands, singers, and poets. We have free admission to all, (membership suggested if you can) with snacks, treats, real mountain spring water, and your favorite soft drink, “Le Croix”, obviously from Paris, France, as we can easily just pretend.
And for a few bucks you can have more of our beautiful wines, crispy fresh crafty beer from the massive Ballard Brewery District, and the best NA beers available. Please come and hear some fun music, great musicians, and support so many daringly bold new first time players. Start their careers out by welcoming them on our very historic main stage!
