About Us

AN ADVOCATE AND EVENT VENUE FOR BALLARD’S SUNSET HILL

SHCA is one of Seattle’s oldest neighborhood associations–both a voice for issues that affect Sunset Hill and a hub for activities. It was formed in 1922 and in 1929 members purchased land and built the two-story Clubhouse to provide the residents and children of Sunset Hill with a hall for community activities.

We are your neighbors. We are volunteers who live in Sunset Hill and enjoy community involvement and advocacy.

Our unique Arts & Crafts-style clubhouse, built in the late 1920s, lets local businesses and organizations host all kinds of classes, workshops, and events. An entry fee may be charged to aid in the upkeep of our historic clubhouse, though many public forums are free and membership entitles you to discounts on some events.

Join, Volunteer or Rent the Clubhouse

Anyone may join SHCA and get member discounts on some events. A volunteer board of directors keeps the organization running. If you have interest in joining the board, fill out the Membership and Board Interest Form.

Anyone may rent the Sunset Hill Community clubhouse. The upstairs hall, in particular, is a light-filled space with enhanced acoustics for weddings, celebrations of all types, musical concerts, etc.  Please direct your rental inquiries by email, phone or by filling out and submitting the rental inquiry form.

We are an inclusive nonprofit organization, run entirely by volunteers. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status.

Mission Statement

Our fun mission is to enrich the lives of Seattle residents, specifically residents living within the Sunset Hill neighborhood through community-building activities, cultural events, educational programs, and social services. We will preserve and carefully maintain our historic 1929 building. We are dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging, well being and increasing compassion for all our neighbors. We are especially dedicated to do this with inclusivity, diversity and equal opportunity employment for all.

The SHCA would like to acknowledge that we are on the unceded and traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present, and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.

Any complaints or concerns regarding this policy should be brought to an officer and/or a director as quickly as possible.
