New future name, “Sunset Hill Community Hall.”

Hello Neighbors and friends of Sunset Hill,

Over the many years we have had many names, first as the Sunset Hill Improvement Club, then as the Sunset Hill Community Club, then as the Sunset Hill Community Association.

It is once again time to change our name to suit the new legal requirements of our new nonprofit organization to “Sunset Hill Community Hall”.

We are very excited to move the community and our beautiful hall into a new era, one that will increase our service to our neighborhood, bring us new prosperity, and increase the longevity and local control of our historic neighborhood building.

By becoming a 501(C)3 “charity” organization instead of a 501(C)4 “political” organization, we can obtain grants to restore our building, save on taxes, allow our donors to write off their contributions, and get food donations to our events amongst other advantages.

We have to create a new nonprofit corporation first, so we have developed a new set of bylaws that are required to meet modern IRS requirements for 501(C)3 applications.

We now have sections on Equal Opportunity Employment; Conflict of Interest; and Diversity, Inclusion, and Harassment, to avoid these common social problems and sources of nonprofit lawsuits. We have changed the Board of Directors terms to two years to make board membership less daunting, (please join our fun board!), as this is common on most boards now.

We have changed the Mission Statement to reflect our neighborhood community purpose and also equally help the preservation of our hall. Please vote “yes” on the upcoming ballots at our February 10th Valentine’s Party and Elections Night to support this changeover. If you have any questions, please send us an email: info@sunsethillcommunity.org

Thank you!
